Wooden Blinds and Shutters

If you are planning on buying new window treatments you may want to take a look at the different range of wood blinds and shutters available. While they are initially oftentimes a little more expensive to purchase you may find that the cost evens out over the long term due to the durability factor with wooden blinds or shutters.  Simply stated, they usually need to be replaced far less often than fabric drapes.

One wooden blind that is not very expensive is the bamboo blind. There are different styles of bamboo blinds and shutters. You can buy bamboo rollup blinds that are usually fairly inexpensive. There are also shutters made from bamboo and even bamboo Roman blinds.  Bamboo, unlike other hard wood, may need more frequent replacement however the fact that they cost very little compared to other wood blinds and yet they still add that touch of wood appeal to a room make them a fairly attractive possibility.

Of course genuine wooden shutters, such as wood plantation shutters, are usually quite expensive. Providing you live in a relatively low to average humidity region plantation shutters made from wood could well last a lifetime; in fact some come with a lifetime warranty.

Wood is not recommended for rooms in your house where there is a lot of steam buildup, such as kitchens and bathrooms, or if you live in a very humid area as even very hard wood can swell and crack if exposed to too much moisture over a long period of time.  Some treated wood stands up much better than other wood, but it is recommended that you check with those you buy the blinds from to ensure that they will do well in your home.  Wood can also sometimes fade when exposed to very harsh sunlight. Normally this is not such a problem for interior plantation shutters for example, however it may affect the look of external wood Bahama shutters over time.

Wooden shutters have a very timeless, classic look to them and they have the added advantage of fitting in perfectly with surrounding furniture in most cases. Most people who purchase wood shutters are happy with their choice.
