Use of a chimney cowl will help keep the home smoke free when the fireplace is in use. As most know when a fireplace is lit smoke moves upward through the chimney so it can pass through the top to the outside. The chimney is often referred to as a chimney pot, the top of the chimney which extends upward from the roof. It is this section of the fireplace that the chimney pot cowl is attached to. Chimney pot cowls are made of aluminum or steel and attached to the top of the chimney to help direct the smoke out from the fireplace while preventing wind from going down into the chimney causing smoke to back into the home.
