The Purpose of Carpet Samples
New carpet will completely change the look of a room, either by giving it a fabulous updated look, or…. not. I am the type of person who decides to do something and just wants to get it done. I would most likely look at carpet samples online or in the store, but would fail to bring them home and really use them to help me decide whether or not I was going to love the outcome. This is a bad idea. There are several things that you can do with carpet samples that will help to ensure that you get the look that you love. Best of all, almost every store, online or in-store offers free carpet samples. (sometimes you must pay a nominal shipping or other fee).
The Look:
You can look at a carpet in store and love it. You can look at it online and love it. But the only way you’re going to know – or at least be more sure – that you love it in your home is if you take the carpet sample home. It’s similar to the advice often given concerning paint samples – experts say you should tape the sample to your wall for a couple of days. You want to see what the carpet looks like in the light of your home. Store lighting is different than the typical home lighting to say the least. You can also hold the carpet up to key pieces of furniture to ensure that there won’t be any clashing in style etc. Don’t stress yourself out over analyzing every aspect, but do try and figure out what the over all look will be.
Stains:
Stains on carpet happen. Especially if it’s a high traffic area, you have little kids, it’s under the table etc. If your house meets some of these criteria you may even want to consider getting some of the more durable commercial carpet samples and just seeing how they compare. With either commercial or standard carpet samples though you can check for stain resistance. Just pour a variety of common substances on them and see how they hold up.
Quality:
This is especially important if you’re shopping online. Always get a sample so you can check the quality of the carpet. You can read about it, but if you don’t handle it yourself you won’t have an accurate idea.
