Here is the checklist:

• Check if you need planning permission for your conservatory.  Do not assume for example that your Victorian conservatory is exempt from planning.  Your local planning department will probably be able to inform you reasonably quickly as to the status of your conservatory.
• Differentiate between different styles of conservatories.  For example Edwardian conservatories have a regular rectangular shape and Victorian conservatories are quite ornate. You may prefer one of these types over the other, but there are also lean to conservatories, sunroom conservatories and many other types and styles to choose from.
• Decide on what shape and size you need your conservatory to be.  Conservatories can be of regular shape, can wrap around a corner of a residence, or can be built at odd angles.  It all depends o what you require.
• Research which materials would be best suited for your conservatory with regard to quality, insulation and durability.  Traditional conservatories were made of iron and wood in many cases, but these materials are heavy and subject to wear and tear.  uPVC has become very popular with regard to conservatory construction due to its durability and insulation properties (You can check out some double glazing installers here).
• Short list quality suppliers and installers by talking to your neighbours.
• Carry out online research regarding conservatory prices in order to be able to judge quotes you receive.
• Do not be rushed into selecting one quote over the other and get suppliers to compete with their quotes.  If you are in doubt, take time out from the selection process.
