Garage Floor Installation

There are a few different reasons that you should think about updating your garage floor. If you have been in the market, but can’t yet decide whether or not you really need a new garage floor covering, or if you can get away with using the same old concrete for a few more years, you will want to take these few things into consideration, to ensure that you make the best buying decision. There is a wide variety of types, colors, and styles of garage floor coating, ranging from rubber, to epoxy, ceramic, to vinyl.

First, you have to think about preventing damage to your floors. Weather, and climate changes effect concrete in very dramatic ways, and unless you take adequate steps to protect your garage floor, you may end up finding out that you must replace the entire thing. Motor oil, and other chemicals that land on your concrete also do damage, by eating away at the seal on top of it. This seal helps keep moisture in, which in turn, keeps your concrete from splitting and cracking. For this reason alone, a concrete garage floor must be covered properly, to protect the value of the home, and your wallet.

Next, you will have to take into account that humans are not meant to walk on concrete floors, and because of the way that we have evolved, our bone structure goes through incredible punishment when we step down onto hard surfaces. Most garage floor coverings have an “anti shock” label, that helps when you are working in the garage for long periods of time, or standing over the hood of a car, and dealing with an aching back. These aches and pains are garnered from standing in the same position too long, on a floor that is unforgiving to the step.

You will also have to consider the color of floor covering that you want to use. Grey, and black tend to be very bad reflectors of light, and if you are trying to brighten up the room, would be poor choices for color. Instead, using brighter colors that will help reflect the available light around the room, helping you to see better, would be a much better decision. These colors, such as whites, silvers, and brighter colored patterns work by amplifying the amount of available light you have, making it much easier to see, and straining your eyes much less.

The last thing to consider, when you are thinking about installing an epoxy garage floor covering, is the increase in value of your home. These types of home improvements are appreciated by any type of buyer, so if you are going to be listing the house for sale any time soon, you will want to make sure that you have the floor covering installed properly, to get the most money back from it during the sale. The upfront cost can easily be recovered, as long as the garage floor installation is clean, and makes a good first impression on prospective buyers.
