How Underfloor Heating Systems Work
It may appear complicated; however, it is really quite simple. A system using small tubing is placed under your floors throughout your home. You can have it professionally installed or you can install the system yourself. These systems are now sold a mat form that is simply laid out underneath your floors. It would really depend on the type of flooring you have and the area that you want covered. You will also want to consider which type of system will work best in your home. There are two systems to choose from, Electrical or hydronic.
Electrical Systems
Electrical systems are typically easier to install but usually require a professional. The advantage of these systems is that they requires fewer components and can be used with a timer. Having a timer will save you money on your electric bill.
Hydronic Systems
Hydronic systems use small piping that circulates heated water, which warms the floors. These systems also typically require professional installation. However, there are many do-it-yourself options available on the market.
As underfloor heating has become more popular, many systems are easily installed. These systems have advanced and newer technology has made them less complex. Keep in mind that installing the systems in a current home will require that your flooring be removed and reinstalled.
