Closet Organization For Dummies
Before you get too annoyed or think that this is some sort of judgment or character attack against you, understand that organization is one of the hardest things to master about ones home. This is why so many people struggle with messy and unorganized closets. However, there is more to it than meets the eye.
Much of what accounts for a cluttered closet space has more to do with our personal habits and behaviors than it does with the actual space we have available in our closets. See, organization is more of a behavior than anything else. There are shows on HGTV and other stations that deal with these specific challenges, but we’ll touch on them briefly here before mentioning some good closet organization ideas in a moment.
It is probably safe to say that if your closet is completely unorganized and/or cluttered, you probably have more rooms with this exact same issue. It could be another closet, a pantry, a garage, attic space, you name it. If your closets are an issue with regard to organization, then you need to change how you utilize that space.
The size of your closet is almost not even an issue, either. Small closets can be organized and utilized quite effectively, if one knows how and applies the principles of good organization. Having said this, there are definitely issues with tighter spaces. One thing you can use is a way of organizing your hanging items. There are specific types of hangers that can help you to get double, triple and more the amount of clothes in the same space as before with an accordion-style, collapsible hanger unit. One of these “as seen on TV” versions is the Huggable Hanger™. It can also help you to avoid the look of having pointy shoulders on your clothes that have been hanging on a hanger for too long.
Storage boxes are also good pieces to use in a closet. Clear boxes can be great because they can give you a way of seeing what is in them, but having them out of the way and organized for use when needed. Another option is to go with a completely new, remodeled closet. These are much more expensive than a simple hanger system or bunch of boxes, but it can truly transform your closet space. Unless you know how to maintain this type of closet organization, it is recommended to start with a more budget-friendly option and work your way up to this once you know how to keep organized.
