Chandeliers Show the Way
Chandeliers have been around for centuries. Going all the way back to the Middle Ages, people used chandeliers to illuminate their lives. Back then only the rich could afford such luxury. These days, were lucky enough to live in a time of abundance. Anyone can have a chandelier in their home and in fact, more than one chandelier in their home.
There is something mysterious and romantic about chandelier lighting. It is the perfect way to create a mood. When the chandelier is lit and nothing else, the light dances off the walls and creates pockets of light and shadow. It is no wonder that we want these light fixtures in our homes.
When it comes to designing your lighting landscape, you should begin with the chandeliers. The design and placement of the chandeliers will show you the way to decorate the rest of the room. Chandeliers come in all sorts of sizes, shapes and materials. How big, how wide and what color will all be determined by your house and your décor.
Before you decide between crystal and wrought iron, you need to know how tall and how wide. These measurements are simple to ascertain. How tall are your ceilings? And how wide is your dining room table? These two measurements will tell you what kind of chandelier to get. If your fixture is too short, it will get lost up by the ceiling and if it is too long, it will be a hazard to your guests. Again, with the width, if it is too wide, it will look comical – like a big spider that is dropping on to your poor dining room table. If it is too narrow, any illumination will be lost. You will not have mood lighting, in fact you will find that the room is too dark and you’ll have to augment the lightscape with floor lamps.
Now comes the fun part: picking the perfect chandelier. Do you want a crystal chandelier? Or a black chandelier or maybe an antler chandelier? The choice is yours and these days, there is no wrong answer! Decorating is as eclectic as the American palate – you are free to express your individual style without answering to anyone! All that matters is the chandelier’s lighting. If it is properly fitted and installed, then no problem. You can begin to build out the rest of your decorating scheme because the focal point is in place.
