Cabin Beds
The term cabin beds can define several different sleeping furniture types in the retail furniture industry today. The one feature with this type of bed system is under the bed storage of some type for clothes, shoes and possibly books in shelves at the end of the bed. It’s more of a storage and space saving piece of furniture that is widely used in log cabins since most of the older style cabins do not have closets and have limited square footage in the bedroom. This term can also reflect a standard bed that is made out of logs to match the motif of a standard log cabin. They are also called loft beds for the same reasons. Making storage or a work area a premium feature that also doubles as a sleeping area.
For the most part all cabin beds are single beds with either solid base filled with drawers or built like a bunk bed sans the lower bed. Some require a stepladder to get into be and others require a rack type ladder for higher climbing. There are literally hundreds of configurations that are ready made to fit the storage and styling needs of many individuals. These beds are especially helpful when you have two people sharing a room and only have one closet.
Another plus for this type of furniture is in the range of pricing. From purely an economical and utility standpoint to extra luxurious and, feature rich where the cost is only limited by your fortune there is a bed that will fit your budget or needs. College students that share apartments usually option for the loft style bed, which can not only have storage below, but a built in desk or room for a student sized desk to be placed underneath.
Mattresses are usually not considered a part of this purchase and are usually an additional expense so keep that in mind especially when shopping online. You would be doing well to find a separate mattress that conforms to your sleeping needs, instead of accepting the one that comes with most cabin beds. This way you can get the comfort and support that your body needs, especially if you are going to be using it for four years at college.
Make sure that you have enough storage to accommodate your needs, and that you’re the bed is weight appropriate for you or the person you are purchasing the bed for. Usually the solid base beds with draws will accommodate larger persons with ease.
